An achitectural renaissance

The monastery church is an important part of the heritage of Seine-Maritime. If nothing remains of the first Romanesque church built by the Estouteville family in the 12th century, it is a Renaissance architecture full of elegance and finesse that we admire today, the jewel in the crown being the chapel of the Virgin, located in the axis of the choir, which houses an exceptional set of stained glass windows, a masterpiece of sculpture attributed to the workshop of Germain Pilon, representing the Annunciation. A community of Benedictines took over the premises from 1994 to 2022 and undertook restoration work. An open-air ruin since the Revolution, the church has received various additions, including a contemporary design roof very well integrated into the monument. Outside, above the portal, a decorative motif created by the painter Eugène Delacroix from fragments of old stained glass has been reassembled. The place is awaiting a new occupation in the continuity of its spiritual tradition.
